Renting designer bags?

Okay, I have spent hours debating this one (with myself), and need some input!

I've been going through a rough time lately (work issues and lost a close relative), and whilst buying a Birthday present for one of my friends, my OH suggested buying me a Mulberry bag! I was completely shocked as he is uber sensible with money, and it is I who has to keep reading this site to get some MS tips. Since being together, he has however tamed me, and we are now pretty sensible with very few extravagances.

I said no (although inside would have loved to be spoilt, and said yeS!!!), as I would not want him to spend that amount of money on something so unnecessary. However, I now CANNOT stop thinking about Mulberry bags. I have been looking at the site "Fashion Hire" and wondered whether anyone had any experience?

I hope I don't sound like a spoilt brat - please be nice, the slightest comment sends me to tears at the moment;)

To be honest, if it is a Mulberry you are after and know which one you really want... and have lusted after it for at least 12 months I would buy it! Reason being, they last forever, are on trend, but not uber trendy so they date quickly. They look lovely as they wear too. I love when the leather has a worn look to it of life experience. You are a very lucky lady. x

!!!!!! it. Get him to buy the bag! Life is too short.

If you did rent a bag and damaged it youd have to pay presumably? So i wouldnt take the risk and get one :)
  • Let the man buy the bag I say......Mulberry..ooh la la....you lucky girl you...

I know how you feel, Vixi!

I baulked & refused when my OH offered to buy me a Radley for xmas/bday & that was only a fraction of the cost of a Mulberry!:o

I've since shown him a Mulberry & the price...he just laughed, so no chance of him offering to buy one of those!:rotfl:

It's up to you, I know I'd feel guilty but deep down thrilled to bits!

I'd forget the hire route, too much risk involved with accidental damage/thieft.

There are plenty of nice handbags out there, many bespoke & limited edition, that cost a whole lot less. Shop around & see what catches your eye.

Or...go for the Mulberry & make me green with envy!:D

    Ha:rotfl:

Thanks guys, I am loving the responses!

Think a Birkin is pushing it! I too love Paul's Boutique bags (have 3)! OH's sister has just moved to Bicester so think I'm going to check out the Mulberry outlet store before taking any steps!!

Agree renting is probably a bit risky!

    Fab advice xxx

Get the mulberry :D Renting is expensive, the weeks of rentals add up and I'd be terrified of damaging a bag and being forced to pay for a replacement or something!
My cousin's been to bicester in search of mulberry handbags but never had much luck, she ended up with a nice luella clutch instead though.

I love bags, let him get it for you, I wouldn't be able to say no to that. Anything else I could, but not a handbag.

Renting a handbag, um, no, I can't see the point personally.
