What does a 38.5 hour shift over 5 days roughly look like?

Hi

The job is mon-sat but if you work a saturday then you have a day off during the week so it is 38.5 hrs over 5 days.

The working times are between 9am and 8pm and the job is for the morning shift from 9pm.

What could my shift look like?

thanks

If the start time is 9.a.m - then I would imagine it is 9-5.40 with 1 hour for lunch and 10 minute teabreak.

With those shifts I presume it is a retail job? Although there is no set rules (apart from a 20 min break in a shift over 6 hours by law) as breaks are unpaid and they'll be running overlapping shifts they generally don't give 1 hour lunch breaks in retail.

Your daily average is just under 8 hours (7.7) a day. When I did 6-8 hours paid shifts at M&S I got 2 x 15 minute breaks. So for 8 hours that would be 9am to 5.30pm with a quick break for a sandwich and a quick cuppa mid afternoon. You have to be very organised on your breaks!

I bet you'll find your actual shifts vary from week to week and sometimes you'll do 10 hour days and sometimes just work the morning...or afternoon...or whatever random hours they think of :)

I currently work 37.5 over 5 days and do 9 till 5.30 and thats with 1 hour unpaid lunch. A full working week at sainsburys would be 39 hours over 5 days and the hours were 8 till 5/9 till 6/10 till 7 and 1 day would would 9 till 5(or a short day as i called it) but if you worked a saturday you had a day off in the week with 1 hour unpaid

It could be that one day is a POETS day (Push Off Early, Tomorrow's Saturday) which in the office world means you finish half an hour early on Friday.

But you would have to check with your employer whether it worked like that, or whether all days were equal, and also how long your break(s) would be and whether they were paid or unpaid.
