Any good ideas of getting the smell of smoke out of a house? Its probably in the carpet ..... could cleaning the carpet fix the problem? Any suggestions - should i get some professional to clean the carpet.
Im going to paint the rest of the house, so that should help. but id really like to keep the carpets.
thanks

rather than get the carpets professionally cleaned you can hire carpet cleaners from about £30 or so from local hire shops. They are relatively easy to use and a cheap alternative.
first though you could try sprinkling bicarb of soda on the carpet and hoovering it up. This should remove some of the smell.

I gave up smoking about 5 months ago and I still get a whiff every now and then. I cleaned the carpets with a solution of Stardrops and water, washed all the covers on the sofas, washed the curtains and use a plug in air freshener. It's gradually disappearing.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

You can get ozone machines that completely get rid of the smell of smoke - these are used after house fires etc. I think you can hire them although they may cost a fair bit, but a web search should tell you.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0
