I did a search for dvd recorders and the cheapest priced model was £99.95 from Dixons (free delivery) for the:
LG DRT389H 1080P Up-Scaling Digital TV/DVD Recorder
I wanted to record some shows myself from Sky+ onto laptop for safe keeping of some programs after my storage space maxed out, but was finding it difficult to do so unless I either hooked it up to a dvd recorder first and then transferred from dvd to laptop. The alternative was to get a tv capture card which is installed into your computer and then you connect into your tv/video source, then playback the video and as it does so, the video is streamed to your laptop/PC which records the picture frame by frame. You might not get the highest quality picture depending on how good your card is. A better solution for you might be the more portable TV USB Stick variety such as this Hauppauge digital tv tuner that will let you watch free to air tv and freeview channels on your laptop which you can then pause and record - and at £32 from Amazon it seems like a good deal. If you want to go even cheaper, you can skip all these and search on eBay - there might be some deals going for about a tenner (plus shipping), but they will be the cheapy generic China imports. From what I know, Hauppauge is a good brand for this tv tuner stuff so it might be worth spending that little bit extra as you will be getting good value from the quality you get.Shin: a device for finding furniture in the dark.0 -
