There's a common saying bandied about: "A graduate job is any job a graduate does" - it's probably best not to get too hung up on getting what you consider to be a "graduate job" and instead think about the industry you'd like to work in, and look for jobs going there, even if they don't specify that a degree is a requirement, or that they are specifically looking for graduates, they can still be a foot in the door - I know quite a few people who took on admin or assistant or general dogsbody job in good companies and were then able to progress through the ranks and pick up training just as fast as anyone on a graduate scheme, albeit in a less formal way.
Personally - well, I graduated seven years ago and still dream of earning the supposed "average" new graduate earnings! One day....0 -
I worked in design and it's really difficult to do this. One way to go is freelance, then building up a portfolio, perhaps alongside another kind of part time job. Design is notoriously badly paid at the junior levels
Hi Lara, it's a nasty industry to be in isn't it? Especially down here in the South West. I tried Self employment but to be honest wasn't comfortable not having the regular wage and the security of a job. And unfortunately I had one main contract with a local company who completely screwed me over, and put me off the whole thing.Green and White Barmy Army!0
