Hi, Does anyone know if it possible to defer student loan payments - even if you are earning just above the non-payment threshold?

Hi Kit_F,
I suppose you could contact them and ask, but don't think they'll let you defer it. If you are only just over the earning threshold they should not be taking too much money from you are they?If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

new style loans, take 9% of income over £15,000.How it works? It's a much fairer system than the old loans as you repay 9% of everything earned above £15,000. So earn £16,000 and you'll repay £90 a year; earn £30,000 and it's £1,260 a year (see the Student Loan Calculator below for exact info). Can you defer repayment? The scheme isn't due to begin until 2011, so full details on how it€™ll work haven't yet been announced.
