I am currently self employed but need an operation that will make me unable to work for 6 weeks resulting in no income for 6 weeks.
Is there any benefits I may be entitiled to.
Have a working husband and 2 kids.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Self-employed people cannot get SSP, however, if they satisfy the NI contribution test they can claim Incapacity Benefit.
Someone who is not in paid work can claim incapacity benefit for the first week of a period of incapacity for work. They should complete form SC1 and send it to her/his local benefits office. Form SC1 is available from local benefits offices and, in England, Wales and Scotland, the DWP website at https://www.dwp.gov.uk. If the client is still incapable of work after seven days, they must provide a medical certificate (form Med 3) from their GP as evidence of their incapacity for work.
