Hi Folks!!
This is my first post on here....
Thanks to complaining to our car insurance company following an accident, we received £2000 in compensation, so i am off to the mortgage branch tomorrow to pay £1150 off our mortgage!!! I am so happy!!
Still have a long way to go mind you, but just wanted to share!!
You have all given me such inspiration to pay it off quicker, and what is better is that hubby has picked up the bug now too!
Here's to the next £1150:beer:

Have you considered online banking/ administration of your mortgage? It is a safer bet than driving to a mortgage branch and waiting in a queue. They may then try to sell you something you don't need. while you try to explain your business.
Please check your terms and conditions for early repayment charges. They vary enormously from lender to lender and from time to time.

Well done Miss Thrifty, good spending!
I'm a new MFW on here too, and so glad I found this board as without it I don't think I would have thought to make overpayments - this way I'll save at least £100k in interest0 -

Hi JB - after the visit to the branch today i am going to look into maintaining my mortgage online. I didn't have to wait in much of a queue, but when i got to the counter and said quite clearly i wanted to pay the money off my capital and have the interest recalculated, she still got it wrong!! I had already checked though that i wouldn't be charged for paying off a sliver of my own mortgage...hopefully i won't encounter any more problems!!
Minx - many thanks, and well done too

Well done!
I was told I couldn't access my mortgage online, which is a bit of a downer, but makes waiting for the monthly statements an event!0 -

I don't get monthly mortgage statements. It was great when I did. Name your 'low tech' lender. Perhaps others have had more luck.

blimey, i only get a yearly mortgage statement, can't access it on line or anything. so frustrating, as I don't know what my mortgage stands at. It is fixed, so I could work it out but if I make any overpayments....
Would be so great to view a mortgage account on line. can you do that?0 -
Hi all,
this is my first post too. Following years of irresponsible spending I am now doing much better.
I am now in a position to start to pay off my mortgage and I have a simple question:
1. Make overpayments to my investment vehicle
or
2. Make overpayments to the mortgage itself?
Many thanks to the gurus in advance!
James
PS - well done thrifty lady!:T0
