friend sacked from this job - is this fair?

Hello all

A friend today was sacked from their job in the construction industry for making a mistake where a member of public got hurt by an electrical fault. They are self employed and were sacked on the spot. They have worked for the company for 3 years.

Thet have not denied the mistake but unluckly only got found out due to the member of public getting hurt.

It now turns out the member of public has lied. They have seen the mistake and pretending to get hurt. They were hoping for a claim but have been found out.

Does my friend have a case against this member of public in some way. Would a visit to the CAB or a solicitor be advised?

Your friend made some sort of mistake and was sacked because of this?

What was his contract with the employer?

What actually happened?

TBH he may not be able to do much.

The problem here is the mistake he made obviously could have injured someone, and it sounds like he's lucky it didn't if it was an electrical issue.

Your friend is self employed so therefore they weren't sacked. There's no point going to CAB because employment laws don't apply as they are self employed.

Time to go find another customer.

THE FRIEND WAS SELF EMPLOYED. Therefore there is no employer and they weren't sacked.

Depends if they were actually 'self employed' or the employer was using this as a ruse.

They would probably have been employed under CIS; like most construction staff; big contractors take them on contract as and when needed. I'm guessing his services aren't needed any more.
