Urgent debt help required

Hello all,
I would appreciate if anyone could advise me of my situation.
Several years ago I moved abroad to another country within the EU but I kept an debit card account open with HSBC. Recently I slightly went over my authorised overdraft limit and my family received a letter in England to contact them immediately. I did seven days later and advised them that I would make a pyment of over 200 pounds to get the account back in order and in the meantime I changed the my address details to my current address. I made the payment however they closed the account and passed it on to a debt collection agency.
A week ago I received a letter at my current address (aboad) and they advised that the outstanding balance is 955 pounds but that they would offer me a discount of 770 pounds to pay. I have until the end of July to advise them of what I will do.
I currently do not have the funds to pay the 770 but could work out a monthly amount with them.
My question are 1. Will I be charged interest on the amount for paying monthly and 2. If I did not pay can they do anything as I live abroad ??

Many thanks for anyone who can help...

If sent to a DCA, its unlikely to have interest charged but its not to say its not possible.

When you contacted them was it in writing? Did you ever make a payment? Have you been using the account.
If it is an old debt, over 6 years with no payment/written acknowledgement/activity on the account. it might be its not payable. As it could be statute barred.

Unless your in Germany/Canada/UK they cannot use the legal system to enforce payment. So they should be happy to accept payment in installments.
