I work as PA to my boss in a small office. On the surface 'boss' looks to be doing really well, new car, nice house, extension, exotic hold etc but just recently has started to receive credit card bills, loan paper work, calls from loan companies at the office etc.
I think (maybe completely wrong though) that he is in debt and is trying to juggle finances without his wife knowing.
My question is, should I broach the subject with him and point him in the direction of this site etc? I'm thinking a problem shared etc and having someone to talk to may help. We have been working together 10 hrs plus.
Or would you be mortified if someone broached the subject?
Just feel as if I ought to be doing something!
Thanks

Was it a case of you answered the call and the company told you / you have read his statements or is it a case that he has told you that he is in debt.
Personally, if it was me and someone approached me, initially I would assume that this person has gone through my details and is being nosy but eventually would let them talk sense into me.
I only say that because I've had previous experience with old housemates opening my mail and then sneaking behind my back by trying to re-seal it so I'm not so trusting in that respect...
Sorry I couldnt offer any advise! Hopefully someone else will come along with more wise words!

He is your boss and I would tread very carefully no matter how well intentioned you are. You would need to know him extremely well before broaching this conversation and have worked with him for many years I would suggest.
Perhaps just raving about this brilliant website you've heard of / mention an article about people being in debt and how sad it is that people don't know there are free places to get help etc - or maybe say how you've managed to save money by switching gas/electric etc but I would be really, really, really subtle.

No, not a case of snooping, but calls coming through to office from loan company and credit card company asking for him and wanting him to call back as soon as possible!0

I really wouldn't mention it directly. As df said maybe mention how good this website is but I know I would hate for people at work to know about my debts problems and would be really embarrassed if they brought it up with me. Since he is your boss and it's only a small office don't want to be creating an uncomfortable working environment for yourself.0

In that case I would follow the advise and subtly hint that this site does exsist. He may either come online to check it out himself or ask you about it and then you can drop some more subtle hints.
Good luck

Thanks for your advice, I do use the site a lot myself so may just mention it as suggested!0

No, I wouldn't say anything. If he wanted you to know he would tell you. And if his wife doesn't know but finds out somehow that you know, it could cause no end of trouble. With the best will in the world, stay out of it, unless he asks for advise/help, then you can direct him on to this wonderful forum;)0

I would just casually mention it, cashback 0% deals changing suppliers etc etc.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

I agree with what others have said.
Just say something like " Oh I was watching that Martin Lewis on the telly the other day and decided to go onto his Money Saving Expert site. You know you can get loads of advice from how to deal with problem debts to how to get rid of tough stains. It's got it all on there. Here if you've got a spare moment take a look I'll leave the address for you because it's truly amazing"!
Well maybe that was a bit OTT but you get the drift. Coming onto this site is like being a child in a toy shop, you don't know where to look first lol.DMP member no 390
