Any Debenhams discounts for use in store?

Son No 1 has just posed me a money saving problem. He's found a coat he likes in the store - it is £95 and he wants to get a bit off if poss (poor student). I have some nectar points which I could donate to him, but would prefer to find a voucher or some other way of getting a bit off. Unfortunately the coat is not on the website, so can't purchase it that way. Any ideas, all you clever MSE ers. :T

  • You could open a debenhams account in store and get 10% off, but you cant use the nwctar vouchers as well, so you need to way up the difference, apart from that the Daily Mail sometimes print a 20% off voucher, but who knows when the next one will be printed!! Hope that helps

I've just been past Debenhams and there is a sign saying '£10 voucher when you spend £50 or more throughout the store. Valid until 24th September (includes the vouchers)

I'm not sure if you could buy something, get the voucher, take it back, repeat as necessary etc.

Find one that has an 'issue', and then barter. Debs are usually great for that sort of thing. I got £35 off a dress a few weeks ago, as it had what looked like a small spot of blood on it. Came out in the £5 dry clean! I've never been brave enough to ask for discount before, but there is no stopping me now!

  • Debenhams policy is to knock 20% off (they may at first say 10%, just tell them you want 20%!) if an item has a flaw. This may be a tiny tiny stain/mark, or a couple of threads/stitches etc, you get the idea.

But don't purposefully damage it, thats fraud.

Poor students shouldn't spend £95 on a coat tell him :D

  • Thanks all. I luv your contribution, biglugs - can't wait to tell him!! I think I'll suggest he gets the card to get 10% off and then cut up the card!! BUT will tell him about the 20% off if it has a flaw. I knew I'd get good ideas from you guys.
