Moving abroad (technically back home)

Options
Hi there,

I am on the verge of taking a job offer to go work on a yacht. I am a Swedish citizen who has lived in the UK for 4 years now.

I will be working at sea and will therefore not be paying tax as I am not working in any country.

I will be working 3 months on, 3 months off (so 6 months onboard and 6 months ashore). I am planning to let HMRC know that I am leaving the UK for good and registering myself back in Sweden.

In Sweden you are only required to pay tax if you spend more then 182 days a year in the country (which I wont unless I used every single day of holiday there).

I have no property, shares, interests income or other ties (father works in the UK as well however he is not a UK citizen) in the UK. I do however have friends so I am planning to spend some of my time in the UK, some in Sweden and some traveling elsewhere. So I estimate I will probably spend a maximum of 4 months in the UK per year (as a tourist visiting friends and my father).

So far I think I have it all worked out. However what I am wondering is if I can keep my UK bank accounts and credit cards? Ideally I would prefer to have my salary paid into my UK bank account, however if this is not possible then I can easily setup a offshore account. My understanding is that if I get the salary into my UK account, then I could only spend a maximum of 3 months every financial year in the UK? Is that correct? (if so then I will go down the offshore account route)

If I am registered in Sweden and "paying" tax there (which will be £0 as I dont spend more then 183 days there), will I still be protected by double taxation?

How do credit cards work then? If I keep using my UK credit cards and pay them off from a off shore account, will I run into problems?

Thanks in advance for your help! Appreciate it!

You will continue to be UK resident and required to file annual UK returns. If you perform no duties in the UK and do not remit a penny of the income to the UK you could continue to claim the remittance basis.
