Hi,
I joined the Oasis health centre gym and it's an 11 month contract but the thing is that due to things happening in my family (one attempted suicide and one psychotic breakdown which involved police) and I'll have to leave but I've only been there 2 months...I'll be moving from england to America and they don't have the gym were I'll be moving so I need to cancel the membership but I don't know how to...I have to move and can't stay for 11 more months...

I got out of mine by saying I was made redundant, instant cancellation and no further questions asked. If I were you I would just say you're emigrating to the US, what are they going to do - chase you over there, I think not.0

so they can't chase me over to the US then? I mean I'm not coming back to the UK and just don't want them to chase me...concerned43 wrote: »I got out of mine by saying I was made redundant, instant cancellation and no further questions asked. They are unlikely to chase you in the USA but you need to remember that most gym memberships are a credit agreement so they will/can put information on your British credit reports and may even default you or take out a County Court Judgement, in the case of the CCJ this could remain on your record forever, although its unlikely."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

What is a CCJ exactly? sorry if that sounds stupid but what does it actually do...:o
also when I leave I was going to leave all the membership stuff (Card, key, etc) behind at the gym with a letter as to who I'm leaving and then will be jumping on the plane the next day...0 -
have you look at the contract you signed? Mine said if I moved more than 15 miles away I would be allowed to cancel0

CCJ = County Court Judgement, means if you want to take out a loan or join a new company and pay direct debit you could be refused, if you get a mortgage you pay a higher amount as your proven to be 'untrustworthy'.
If a CCJ is a big deal. If it catches up with you it could result in a fine, a court case (where you have to pay fees as well as the debt) or even worse...
Why not have a word with the manager? at least try to sort things out, it may all be fine.0 -
Hopefully they will let you cancel but gyms are notoriously difficult for agreeing to cancel memberships. Can you advertise somewere in Gumtree /friends etc for someone to take over you gym membership. Your gym may agree to let you transfer your membership to someone else.0
