My husband is employed by a company in the UK but works in Europe - his salary is paid into his bank account in the UK in pounds.
He has been working away for the last 2 years - after the first year he was told his NI insurance was stopping and he should go onto voluntary contributions as he was not resident in the UK as such. We then arranged to pay voluntary NI. Throughout his employement in Europe he has paid UK Income Tax even tho he is only home in the UK for approximately 1 month out of every year.
We have been told that he should not be paying UK Tax as he is not a resident of the UK. He has contacted the Tax office numerous times... filled in a P85 and all we get from the tax office is that "the forms are lost"..... "we are awaiting paperwork from another office" and...... "we have handed this over to our technical department"
He pays approximately £1500 tax per month - the reason he took up the job to work out of the UK was the fact he was led to believe that he would not pay Tax in the UK but in the country he is working in.
This is very confusing............ any advice on this please?
