I think there should be a review every, say, 2 years, and people should be obliged to downsize if necessary. It's not some massive disadvantage only for social housing tenants. Most sensible elderly people in private houses do it. My Granny sold her 4 bed, 3 reception detached house with a large garden 2 years after she was widowed, when she was about 75, and moved half a mile away to something managable.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • Its exactly what i have done moved from a 3 bed LA House to a 2 bed flat and hopefully next yr when hubby reaches 60 we will move again to a 1 bed bungalow

The only grievance I have is that there should be more accommodation specifically for over certain ages so that you dont end up with mixed age groups which just dont work.

Broadly agree although much of the social housing stock particulatly inner London ain't suitable for say older tenants.

No - it would have to be genuinely suitable, I agree.

And there needs to be a lot more ground floor and wheelchair adapted property built.

This has been a problem for years and with an ageing population is only going to get a lot worse!
