Sleeping With Dentures In Or Out

What is best to sleep with your dentures in or out at night . I have always slept with my dentures in but recently i have found that my gums have become sore could this be something to do with me keeping my dentures in when i sleep ?

I take my 2 tooth denture out every night & keep it in a pretty little cup with water in after giving it a gentle clean. I also remove and rinse the denture and my mouth after eating to keep from bits of lunch re-emerging from under my plate after a couple of hours (YUK!).

I treat it like a little pet & feel quite affectionate towards it as without it I look and sound bit like a toothless witch!
