I wanna dye my hair purple

Hiya

I need some help, im a mum of 18mth old boy who doesnt give me much time to myself and ive decided ive really let myself go and i need to start making more of an effort! I would like to dye my dark brown hair purple (not a goth type of purple!!!!!), i cant afford to go to the hairdresser so ive bought a highlighting kit and a couple of purple permanent hair dyes. I thought i would pull some hair through the highlighting cap first and then i would end up with some vibrant purple pieces.

Any hairdressers out there that can help!

  • depending on the clolour of the purple, you may have to bleach your hair first to get it a nice purple colour, if you've got dark hair. I used to have blonde bits bleached in by the hairdresser and then I'd colour those bits myself. But because it was bleached, it washed out quickly, so I bought Crazy Colours and just kept reapplying it. I'd be pink one week and blue the next

Agree with first poster, but to be on safe side have a dark brown colour on standby, in case it all goes horribly wrong. Crazy colour is great, but like the name it is rather bright. As a rule any colours called plum something are usually purpleish. If you use bleach first it will lighten hair and then you can use plums to make purple. Good luck !!

Girl next door changed colour at the weekend and spent Monday in the hospital as she had a bad reaction to the product. Her face was all swollen and she was scratching like mad....
  • my daughter had purple bits put in last tuesday at the hairdressers, they bleached it first and then used a "fudge" colour , it was vivid violet at first ( almost glow in the dark!) but now it is fading badly and has pink bits so I am taking her back tomorrow for them to re-do it hopefully. every time she has washed it more and more colour comes out. she has naturally very dark brown hair and it seems to be like mine, which does not hold even permanent colour for any length of time.

  • I bort one of those permanant 'viva' colours I think it was or maybe it was garnier 'nutrise' (cant remember as Ive used so many!) The colour I used was a deep purple almost brown like the woman with the 'autumn' hair off the advert for all the 'seasonal' hair colours, where there are all autumn leaves on the tree behind her. Anyways, the colour was more of a reddy purple and didnt cover over my hair as well as I had hoped - probably should have used 2 boxes. As you are only doing streaks though I would think you will be fine. Only thing I can warn on is that the colour fades a lot with hair washing but I liked the colour for a nice wintery change!

  • P.S - superdrug were doing their own permanant hair colours for £1.88 half price when I last went in - I got 2 colours and had my friend (who is a hairdresser) streak my hair for £3.76!!!

  • why not go to your local college to get it done by student as it will be cheaper than a salon and less risky than doing it yourself. they will probably 2nd or 3rd year students to be able to colour and they are supervised by teacher. i've had many a hair disaster with home dying it never comes out the same colour as the packet!!!!

i dye my whole haid whatever colour i decide on that month and add some false weaves of hair using hair glue - at the moment i have red with bleach bands - last month i was purple with pink bands....you can usually find them at a local jamaican hair shop, but, i buy my hair weaves at firths chemist (bradford) - it only cost £10 for two colours and glue thatll last forever and you can reuse the colours...their hair dye is only £2 too so good bargain............home bargains sometimes do the weaves too so look there

Well I have bright red gothy :p hair. I think the best thing to do would be buy one of the ones you use with dry hair. I've found the 'Live' ones to be the best. Buy a cheap comb and comb it in where you want the streaks. Then keep really still until it's took effect.
