Another vote here for William Bounds, I have one with a collar that allows you to adjust between 3 levels of grind; coarse, medium and fine.

Anything else I've tried has broken within a few months. It is unbelieveable how many rubbish and sometimes expensive mills there are out there. I think they are just designed for decoration and are usually given as Christmas presents. William Bounds are the only ones that seem to be actually designed to be used :)
I totally agree with you about the number of inefficient & downright useless mills there are for sale, I've spent a fair amount on them myself in the past

the simplicity of the adjustment's a great feature isn't it? I like coarse & the others in the house like medium or fine so it's really easy for everyone to have what they want. I've got one of their adjustable salt mills too, they're excellent products

have you noticed the 'made on the third planet from the sun' inscribed on the collar when you remove the top for filling? :D

The last time I was in Range I noticed a pepper mill in the shape of a full sized baseball bat. :D

At least when that goes wrong you're left with a fairly hefty weapon or possibly some sporting use...;)

I have had loads of pepper grinders in the past (I love freshly ground black pepper so much my food looks like roadkill!), but the one I have now has lasted the longest..........Two whole years!! the make is bertollio, and I bought it for the princely sum of £1.99 in a local 'Home Bargains' store! and it grinds perfectly, nice mix of fine and coarse, but a pestle and mortar does a good job too!
just buy some cheap ones and see what works best for you - I did try an expensive one and it was rubbish! too powdery - it looked like commercial ground black pepper.

Hi triker

as this had dropped down the Old Style board, i moved it to the I wanna board to see if you get some more responses :)

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

thanks
