How much discount on rings?

I want to buy an engagement ring but don't know where whould be the best place to buy one. I have heard that if you go into the high street jewllers you can get about a 10% discount on the price. Does anybody know if this is true or where the best place is to buy. I have a set amount to spend but I would also like to get the best value ring for that price. Cheers

Mine is a second hand art nouveau bought at a small antiques shop. It's most probably one of a kind and was much better value for money compared to the standard ones you can get on the highstreet.
  • Warren James is imo the only retail outlet that comes near QVC on price.

Argos and Index are generally cheaper than jewellers. Secondhand is an option, but fiancee might be touchy about that?

After all what IS discount, you only have to look at DFS ;)

I would suggest that you look in on 'Price Drop TV' Click on the jewellery section and then click on a ring that looks suitable. That will give you the necessary information. Then either watch it on 'freeview' or you can watch it being sold on the website. If the price drops enough for you you can bid for it. Most of their jewellery is on the cheaper side but with a re-sizing facility and a 30days money back guarantee

I would definately agree with this - you won't pay vat on a second hand ring and you will get more for your money. I go to a fab shop in Newcastle who if you ask will give you discount for cash.

Where do you live? I used to live near Birmingham and get my jewellery from the Jewellery Quarter - HUGE discounts on what you would pay for it in the high street shops. There's also a jewellery quarter in London and possibly elsewhere (Manchester?) but don't know exactly where. Dependant on how much yo have to spend, it may be worth making a special trip to Brum etc. When I lived in Hertfordshire, we went and got our wedding/engagement rings from Brum.
