Manky shower screen sealant

hi all
I have a shower screen not dissimilar to this
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8306177.htm
Its perfectly fine, except at the bottom theres a sealant, which effectively is a plastic tube really. Now its gone all manky. its limey INSIDE the tube itself.
I cant fathom how to take if off. im sure a soak in stardrops will bring it up, or is there any way of cleaning it while its already fixed on there?

Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I have the exact same one. I know exactly what you mean and it isn't easy.
What I do is Slide a corner of my microfibre (of course) cloth in and ease it along to the end.
I dosn't work very well to be honest, but I'd love to know another way too.0 -
i think mine's from homebase, but i can slide the bottom tube off. then i soak it in the bath in a bleach solution, and then shove a pipe cleaner up it!
i'm still annoyed that i cannot get the seal on the vertical side of the screen off to clean (mine has 3 hinges in the way)- any ideas on that one?0 -
ok
ive jsut had another look at it.
It seems that the whole bit at the bottom with ther tubey bit on can come off. However, Ive pulled it off, but its still screwed to the wall, so the whole screen will need to come down then I can take the tubey bit off the bottom, soak it in a gbathfull of stardrops soilution and then refit it back on the screen and then screw the screen back on
I have a feeling this is going to go horribly wrong.
Wish me luck! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Best of luck, So the seal dosn't just slide off then. I can't get my cloth all the way along as the screen sits on top of the bath.0

its pretty impossible to describe here, you kind of have to see it. Mine sits on the rim of the bath as well, as per the pic above
I have unscrewed the bottom 2 screws that attach it to the tiles at the bottom, and loosened one of the top ones. theres a plastic slopey looking panel thing that attaches the tube to the glass bit, pull the tube down and the whole strip will come off.
that strip ( triangley white panel) and the manky tube arre attached to one another and they are now laying in the bath with a mild stardrops solution.
If this doenst work, Im going to block the end of the tube with blutac or something and funnel the startdrops solution in
If that doesnt work, erm Im going to er go mad? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Hi lynz,
You might get more help with this on the In My Home board.....let me know if you want me to move it over for you.
Pink0 -
how thick (or thin!) is the tube? would you be able to get a really skinny brush down it, like maybe one of those ones for cleaning the teats of babys bottles?0
-
pink, would you leave it here please
No way thriftylady, its a) quite long ie over a metre and the tube diameter is smaller than a 5p peice
I live in hope:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Could you get a piece of cord about the diameter of the tube, soak that in stardrops and thread it down the tube? You probably haven't got anything to hand but camping shops and some old fashioned hardware stores will often sell cord by the meter (or try a fabric shop for curtain cord etc).Adventure before Dementia!0
