Hi I was a single parent on benefits up until my partner moved in then I stopped the benefit. My partner is working and recieves 24000 a year I have three young children and claim child tax credit. the problem is that since the twins started school I have been looking to find work to suit hours but no luck as yet. I have been out of work sometime and finding it difficult to get the confidence. I was wondering wether I am entitled to go to the job centre and sign on as being uneployed and looking so I could get any extra help such as training or courses because every thing seems to be for people on benefits. After the wages has been on food bills depts and rent, pension, tax. I could not aford to pay for any sought of course.
Thanks Kat

I think they will help, check with your Job Centre.
People who aren't entitled to Job Seeker's Allowance, still sign on
for their pension/stamp contribution.
Don't expect too much help though, as that kicks in when you
have unemployed/signing on for a while, say 6+ months.0 -
I believe you can get college courses free whilst on JSA, without having to wait six months.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
The Jobcentre should be able to point you in the right direction and tell you what you might be able to do course/training wise. Also there will be adult education classes starting, check what's happening locally to you, there are usually practical things like computer courses available, they would be a good starting point for improving skills or just to gain some confidence by doing a course that you fancy and meet people.Torgwen..........
