    thanks all

phone the paper direct and they know about the situation but it looks like it is all above board. They are going to try investigate things a bit more and see if there is anything can be dont. I fear my dd will kill me for interfering!!

I'm sorry if this is not what you want to hear, but as a Mother of a 13 year myself, there is no way on Gods earth would I let my daughter go round demanding payments or collecting money etc, she is putting herself at potential harm and risk.

You are the parent and as parents we have the right to interfere, especially when the childs best interest is at heart.

Blimey! How times have changed. When I was 14/15, this is exactly what I used to do when I was delivering papers and thought nothing of it as it was part of the job. FYI, this was 25 years ago (really feeling old now)

It's not just knocking on doors asking for money either, she could get "mugged" after collecting the money! A paper round should be just that - delivering papers and not debt collecting, it's not fair on the lass.

If she does end up not doing this job perhaps you can help soften the blow by looking for other ways she can make money - there are a few threads here that might have some suggestions she could use

Have look under prohibited employment - collecting money at 14 years of age is illegal.

This is excellent, thank you....I guess the defining bit is 'unless under supervision of an adult' and what that actually means and wether the supervision means someone actually being there with them or somone being responsible at the end of the day for it in which case it would be the distributor and wouldnt solve the problem. I know saying its common practice doesnt mean that its right but the paper themselves who am sure would cover their own backs said this was normal proceedure.

I agree though, I am not happy with the debt collection side of it (although I dont mind so much the people she had developed quite good relationships with and who pay on a weekly basis).....we shall see what happens next
