Finding Voluntary Work

But they are tough on interviewing and then you have your background checks and ongoing training sometimes for 6 months before you can actually contribute to the CAB. Thats why they want to know you are going to be there for a long time.
Ive been a CAB vollie and I did a similar mentoring job as above. It was actually for National Childrens Homes with young people coming out of care or those who had been excluded from school and/or were offenders. It was a very rewarding, if somewhat hair raising job at timesBut when that 1 in 20 came good, wow, better than winning the lottery. But then again, background check taking weeks, training in basic skills and so on - so a long term commitment.

dont know if its anything to do with the economy but our department has been looking for to do a volunteering day. I have sent 20 emails to different organisations and sent chases and only had 2 responses
could give them up to 30 people for a full day to paint or anything and even the 2 responses asked for more info and like dates and didnt come back to me, I find that really sad

As you have only recently been made redundant, you ought to spend pretty much all of your time on job search rather than diverting some of your effort to volunteering. The longer you are out of work, the more difficult it will be to find a job. The benefits of volunteering to one's CV are often exaggerated on these boards. Plus, if you are claiming benefits as a result of being out of work, that is what the taxpayer would expect you to do too.0

Yep, I believe you. Thing is with "elf and safety" plus the old background checks then sometimes it just all seems too much bother for the charity to sort out.
You could try old peoples homes? Just spending time chatting and so on or put on a little show for them?0
