Credit Report Help!

I requested my credit report and am abit shocked by some of the things on there!
Firstly someone opened a Next Directory account from my old address in April 2006 and I moved out Mar 2003!
It's showing my AVON account (closed in 2004 or so I thought)
Also showing an "orange" account from when I was interested in getting a contract phone in 2002 but never took them up on the offer!
Should all these things be showing? In total I have 6 credit cards still showing that I settled and cancelled in May!

You need to get on the phone to Next (A pain I know) and explain to them what has occured. They can contact your credit file company (usually Experian or Equifax) and have details amended.
Credit files do contain details of credit you enquired about but never actually used.
And as far as I am aware closed accounts do eventually go off your credit file within a few years (not sure how long though). Ensure you write to Avon and the credit card companies to let them know that you have ceased trading with them as it were.
Any transgressions (not paying up on time or at all) usually lasts for 6 years on your credit file.
Good luck

I have in writing from all closed credit cards, a confirmation of my account closure! Rung Next last night and they apologised and closed the account!
After reading up on it, it seems even closed accounts stay on your credit history for 6 years too!

Are you on the electoral role? I know some people find it difficult getting credit/bank accounts open etc if they are not on it.
A phone call to your local council will quickly remedy that.0 -
