Quick question- does anyone have a link regarding the maximum allowance of sunlight in the workplace?

to answer the question I do not think there is any law specifically on the quantity of sunlight you could be subjected to. However health and safety laws I would guess would mean that things would need to be done to negate any possible effects from the sunlight. For example if you are a cabbage picker in a field all day then allowing you access to water would be a neccessity and if possible a shade at the back of the trailer to prevent direct sunlight. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

lol. Work in a glass building, and light's been measured at 10.4 kLux. Going home most days with headaches, and have submitted a H&S complaint- which I hate doing, as otherwise it's a nice place to work....
Sun on a cloudless day is reflecting off every surface, as everything's white, glass and shiny. No-one else likes doing a shift out here, but continually see flashing colours in my vision and get a gritty feeling in my eye- spent most of previous weekend on painkillers as eye was hurting so much....0 -

Sunglasses (if you are not customer facing) with a hat that has a visor part to it?The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Sunglasses may also be classed as PPE, which your employers should pay for.0 -
Have you tried wearing a pair of sunglasses. Does that solve the problem?0

You do not state the nature of your work however, if you are the 'user' of display screen equipment, you company is legally obliged to undertake a DSE assessment.
Reflective glare, as you have indicated can cause the problems you have described.
I would also suggest that you have your eyes tested to ensure there is nothing else going on that could be causing your problems.(your employer should pay for this if you are a display screen 'user').
This may be of assistance.0 -
Unless you're working in a plant nursery, I would have thought your employers would have provided window blinds. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
