Hi all,

A yellow card arrived today from AIC. It is addressed to a man who lived here two years ago or more. We have tried to get him or his (now ex) wife to come and collect their post since Febuary, but now they've split the woman is no longer interested, since it is all in the man's name and we have no way of contacting him.
Having looked them up quickly I am starting to worry that phoning them to explain will get us nowhere and that bailiffs will be sent round. I have two young children at home and don't need to be afraid of a knock on the door.
Should I be worried and what can I do?
Thank you.

Hi I had this problem when we moved into our house. I rung them and explained the people no longer lived here and passed them the next known address I had for them. No baliffs arrived after that - but we did get lots of letters afterwards.

I opened all the post once the old occupants didnt come to collect and called each company explaining that they had moved - it seemed to work.

The letters have just started again so will be ringing them still. I understand why your worried, although the baliffs should not come and wont be able to take anything if they do its worrying that they might. I hope you get it sorted.

Nothing to worry about - AIC are all bluster and it isn't worth phoning them. Their staff are belligerent, unpleasant and unhelpful neds, and no-one has to give them work to do.

This isn't your debt, therefore it's none of your concern - you don't have to accommodate AIC, tell them who you are, or tell them where the debtor is even if you knew.

You're not the debtor and that's all they need to know.

Letters will keep coming, but they can be safely ignored.

For bailiffs to come to the house, the whole matter would had to have been to court - and UK law decrees that no-one has to pay someone else's debt.

People still get confused between bailiffs and debt collectors - there is a marked and substantial difference between the two.

If AIC can't trace the debtor, then that's their problem. Knowing AIC as well as I do, they can't run a halfway decent or efficient company either.
