You will find these words if you do a google search for either key sight words or Dolsch words.

You teacher will welcome you taking time to support your child with her homework. However, do remember that children are very tired after school at this age and the homework set by the teacher is probably sufficient.

It would perhaps be better for you daughter for you to enrich her language skills by activities like reading lots of stories together, doing practical activities like baking. leaf printing, shopping etc that involve lots of language.
Children's reading will ususally flourish if books, story tapes, language games (see ELC products), leap pads etc are used by parents with their children. The most important thing is that you involve your child and talk to her.

As a teacher, I do not encourage parents to extend formal learning activities too much at this early stage.

at my daughters school they used the oxford reading tree books i loved these!!!!!!

you can buy them from the book people cheaply here at 9.99 for 12 books that is a real bargain for these books!! they are normally really expensive!!!

My children had those Oxford Reading tree books. Theres also a fortnightly magazine to support this called The Magic Key. I can't remember much about the keywords but I remember dragon was one of them.

  • hi thanks for that, just thought if the words where around the house it might help her, i do all the above and lots more, she is a bit slow on forming and sounding out the words so i thought if they where around, it might help her and me as sometimes if i dont know what she is talking about i find it hard to understand i am not a pushy parent just a thoughtful and caring one.
    Thanks michelle
  • ahhhh, biff and chip (the boy and the dog) I remember that from school and from last year DS has just gone into Y1.

I still have a list of the words that DS had in his 'word tin':

    Here we go:

    Set 1:
    my
    see
    dog
    like
    dad
    I
    mum
    can
    cat

    SET 2:
    school
    here
    to
    is
    play
    look
    with
    we
    home
    at

    SET 3:
    went
    come
    out
    up
    help
    you
    me
    go
    a
    said

    SET 4:
    big
    he
    it
    this
    yes
    house
    not
    the
    in
    no

    SET5:
    of
    they
    was
    am
    are
    away
    day
    for
    going
    on
    get
    all
    she

I hope this helps your daughter, I presume this is a standard set of reception words, if not ...sorry
Proud to be me, proud to be who I am!!

That's exactly the list that my son came home with on his first day.
He's still on wordless books but should get books with words in any day now.
(I feel a bit sad getting excited about that but hopefully some of it will rub off onto him).
