Hi
My wife is due at the dentist today to pick up a tooth guard as she grinds her teeth in her sleep. The dentist didn't give her a price just took a mould and we are curious as to how much it will actually cost. She is an NHS patient.
Thanks for your help:T

If it is on the NHS, then it will be a band 3 charge of £198! As it's something made by a technician, and so it falls into the same category as a denture or a crown.
If you don't pay NHS charges, it will obviously be free.
If you do pay NHS charges, it would be cheaper to have it done privately where, depending on the dentist and the type of appliance, it could cost between £50 and £150 ish.
By not giving you any sort of clue as to the charge though, the dentist is wide open to a successful complaint should the bill be too much of a shock. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Ask for an FP17DC form. You are entited to one. This will is basically a written quote.
Also ask what type of appliance is being made.0 -
