What IS that one weird tip

• Low carb can be good for losing weight as long as you bear in mind that a lot of it initially will be water, and that you will have to slowly re-introduce carbs and find your tolerance point to avoid it all going straight back on again.

Short term diets can work in the short term, but the only thing that will work long term is long term lifestyle change. You can sometimes get away with a short term diet to get things moving, followed up by a sensible long term food plan, but a short term diet followed by going back to 'normal' eating will see the weight go on again, and can also screw up your metabolism making it even harder in the long term to lose weight.

And please don't get me started on people wanting to look 'toned'! I know you didn't say it, but can imagine that it's in your mind somewhere. The only way to look 'toned' (you cannot GET 'toned') is to have a low enough bodyfat level with a high enough muscle level for it to show. Different people lose fat from different places first, which is why you see slim people with a belly, their body just holds onto belly fat more than fat in other places. You cannot spot-reduce either, so situps (or any other ab device/gadget) won't make a difference, you'll just get strong stomach muscles but they'll still be covered by fat.

I know this isn't what people want to hear but it's the only answer, sorry!

And I'm not trying to come across all high and mighty cos I struggle with it all too, maybe i'm worse for having the knowledge but not applying it?

for a tiny belly? I keep seeing all those ads and I wondered whether anyone knows what it is (err, to make this OS, I don't want to spend money finding out ...)

Susy

You send all your earnings to a delightful lady in Nigeria on the promise of a £million legacy, despite having never heard of the person so keen on giving you the money, and after that you won't be able to afford to buy food and the weight will just fall off you?

Hi susyrosy,

As your thread isn't really related to Old Style and has dropped down the board, I've moved it over to the Health and Beauty board to see if you can get some more replies.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

Seems like others have said it already: scam scam scam! There is no easy way to get a tiny belly, its simple logic- what goes inside it has to be reduced, it will shrink, you will have a smaller belly. For a tiny belly like in the pictures? you either need to also be 13 or have an airbrush handy. Its very hard to look like the models in the pictures do as they are pre-adult, pre-shape, pre-child and have a naturally low body fat (soon to expand when their female hormones kick in).

A women is supposed to have between 20-27% body fat, this is normal, this is healthy. Your going to hold some of it on your stomach and unless you starve it all away- which would also mean no/tiny breasts, no curves, no periods, (no children) and low bone desnity (osteoperosis) you have to cut yourself some slack- your a human being, not a flash-card. Your body needs to have some fat on it to be healthy, having a tiny waist is very hard to do as a result.

Also bear in mind your body shape. Some of us have a tendancy to hold fat around out waist. We are all different, some of us don't. It can mean that for some of us as a result, just the same as it is hard for naturally athletic people to get Jordan sized breasts, its also very hard for apple shape women to have a concave style stomach.
• This blog has also looked into the scams and has some good info:

one is for acai berries and the other is for a chinese tea both very expensive and not worth trying

The Chinese tea one is the Cho Yung Tea scam which is being widely advertised and is a huge scam.

Also see this blog post about the 1 weird tip scam:

• I'm going to sound really old now but in the 80's Esther Rantzen did a big expose on Chinese Tea on her 'That's life' programme so I guess it's time for it to resurface now! It's an expensive con!

I used to have a flat non-existent belly before I had two kids. The best way for me to get a small tum is to exercise, nothing flash, just taking the kids/dog for a walk, etc, and to cut out stuff like biscuits, ice cream etc.

I'm not that good at cutting down on snacks, especially after running around after my kids, but it is the only thing that works (short of cosmetic surgery). I just have to feel motivated.
