Jo- yes two professions but that has caused part of our debt Im afraid. I trained as a nurse some time ago then supported hubby through his studies for 7 years! then I studied to be teacher and that cost more money!

That's lovely that you supported your husband like that, Isy - you will get your reward for being so selfless, I am absolutely sure. ("But when???" I hear you cry!)

Isy, with regards to your groceries bill, have a go at menu planning, it's cut our bills dramatically. If you go on to the Moneysaving Oldstyle Board they have a menu planning thread and also there is the Grocery Challange as well.

I second this, Tigerfeet!! It has helped me SO much and has just generally given me much more time as I am not running around like a headless chicken each evening! :D

I will check that out. The trouble I have is that during term time with two jobs and lesson planning I work about 60 hours a week. It would be good if I could make loads of meals in hols and freeze them but then I would need bigger freezer. I have also thought about trying to get slow cooker as that is meant to be good for stews etc isnt it.

Slow cookers are brilliant - I wouldn't be without mine. You can buy cheap cuts of meat (or joints) and cook overnight. Alternatively if you stick the meat and veg in before you go out to work and leave it all day you get lovely tender meat with rich tasty gravy and the veggies cooked as well so that when you come home jiggered your evening meal is ready to serve AND all for the same cost as a lightbulb being on.

This one is a good buy at the mo for much less than half price

I let my mind wander and it never came back!
