Home Based Transcription Typists

Hi everyone,

I have recently been made redundant. I am a qualified shorthand typist. I am looking into the possibility of becoming a home based transcription typist. I am a fast, accurate typist and have my English grammar skills are pretty good.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has undertaken work for a transcription company. Can anyone offer any advice please?

My advice is that you need to sign up to several companies as the work comes in spits and spats so it's not very reliable- some months my other half earns £300, other months it's more like £20. One of the companies she is with emails when a file comes in and then it's a case of whoever replies first to say they'll do it gets it so she's constantly checking her email to see if she has one so she can try to be the first to reply.
