Good grief, is there a reason for not saying Asda, Aldi, Tesco etc etc, the site doesn't seem to **** them out. Just read a post on another thread and it took me a while to work out which shops he or she was referring to. Lots of people seem to do it, I thought maybe the site would screen proper names of businesses out, but it doesn't. What with Mr T, Mr S, A*d* , L**l and the rest of them, it's very confusing, especially if you're not that familiar with the stores being mentioned.
Is there a reason for it? If not, why does it happen.

I think people are just giving them stupid nicknames, no other reason that I can tell. I refuse to get sucked into it, it's ridiculous. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

I think it may be so they don't come up on search engines (free publicity), although it seems a bit nuts to me!Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Phew, that's a relief, I thought it was only me who finds it ludicrous! Thanks.0

Well I only type Mr S as I am too lazy to type out Sainsburys all the time

I say Mr T (Tesco), Morries (Morrisons), Coop- as in Chicken Coop! (Scottish Co-operative). Sainsbugs (Sainsbury's), Lidl (Lidl), Asda (Asda)- we don't have Morries, Sainsbugs, Asda or Aldi up here, or Home Bargains, or Wilkinsons, or Poundland for that matter! Try shopping on a budget up here!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

What do you call "English Co-operative"? Scum?! Co-op is co-op (Coop) isn't it??
btw, ABM.0 -
Well seeing as we live in Scotland we have Scottish Co-operative here (Coop). My mum also lives in Scotland, but further south and she has Scotmid in her town and Scottish Coop in next village, but refers to them both as 'the Co-op'. I am not really familiar with the Coop in England but are some of them now Scotmids and some Coops (I am sure I heard a Midland Coop, or something, being mentioned). What do you call "English Co-operative"? Up here local shops and 'the Co-op' have been a mainstay, as we have no other big supermarkets except Lidl (arrived a few yrs ago) and currently they are building a new Tesco (have a small temporary one just now) on the ground where the old Tesco, which was Somerfield, which was Morries, which was Safeway, which was Presto, was!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
