I would first get Lowells to prove that you owe any of the debts that they have defaulted you for (CCA requests)
If they cannot provide proof then consider suing them for damage to your credit report & also inform the reference agencies that you will sue them as well if the info is not removed.
You can also report them all to the OFT,trading standards & the info commissioner.
Someone may correct me here...but i think the rate is currently something like £1000 per incorrect entry on a credit file??????

You are correct Lowell's buy debts. A default is placed on your record after you have stopped paying for a time (up to 6 months after) and it stays there for 6 years.

I think you have two options I guess depending on how old the default is.
    - you can ignore it and wait for Lowell's to write to you (They may do this soon if you have got your credit records and linked your addresses together recently. However if they don't until after 6 years, the debt will be statute barred. While you wait you could put money aside so that if they come you can offer them a reduced F&F payment)
    - you can wake them up and send a 'prove-it' letter see this post for the letter template: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=34505029&postcount=5
