What happens with Argos discontinued items?

I've been looking for a cheapish camera & found one in the Argos catalogue for £49.99. Unfortunately my local store didn't have any in stock. In fact very few did, so I guessed it was due to be discontinued. I only found one store reasonably local with stock - they had 3.
I planned to go there on Saturday 24th (new catalogue out) but noticed that the price was only valid until Friday 23rd.
At this point I chickened out and decided to go and get it on Friday.
I reserved on-line (reserved until shops close Saturday) and after work on Friday I went and bought it.
At last to the query-
What happens to the discontinued stock? The store still had 2 cameras left in stock, but when I checked the website on Saturday morning the product code wasn't recognised.
And if I hadn't collected the camera until Saturday morning what price are they likely to have charged?
I'm happy with the price & the camera - hopefully niece will be too. It's her Christmas present - but am curious whether I could have got a better bargain or not.
The model I bought is sold in several colours but Argos only advertised it in black. The camera(s?) they had in stock are/were silver. Not really an issue as the (very helpful) SA opened the box for me to have a look at it first. I searched Argos by model reference and they're now selling it in red and silver (the one I got) but it's only available for home delivery priced £89.99:eek:

Don't Argos have an ebay shop where they sell their returns?
Perhaps they sell their discontinued stock there too?0 -
There is an Argos Clearance store in Corby, Northants where discontinued items are sold very cheaply. Presumably, there are more around the country.0
