Flaking nails?

Can anyone give me some advice on flaking nails.

In the past week my nails have begun flaking for no apparent reason.

I always wear rubber gloves when my hands are in water and always put lots of handcream on so I've no idea why all of a sudden this is happened.

I've tried wearing clear nail varnish to make them a little stronger because as soon as they bend at all the flaking goes further down my nail, so it seems like it will just keep on doing it.

The only thing I can think of is to put false nails on until the flaking grows out?

Does anyone have the same problem or has cured it by some miracle cure?

Thanks for any advice ...

I used to get this and at the time I was not eating any protein (anorexia). Not saying you have an ED by any means (please don't be offended!) but how is your protein intake?

Protein comes from meat, fish, eggs, seafood, dairy and you need roughly 1.5grams of protein per kg of body weight, an example of the amounts in food at that a 125g tuna steak would have around 35grams of protein in.

Just to add but at the time I used to use nail cure varnish things and only ever found they worked a little bit (like one day) the peeling would begin again soon after. May work for others but just didn't work for me.

I noticed that my once- strong nails had begun to flake. I started taking calcium supplements and am back to long, strong claws!

A manicurist told me that nail strengtheners etc don't really work, they dry out your nails and this increases splitting etc. I know they *would* say this but it is also my experience that the more I wear protective stuff the dryer my nails get. I find massing the nails and cuticles regularly either with a good handcream or a cuticle cream (or even vaseline) helps my nails more than anything else.

most of the time this is down to bad diet, lack of calcium or maybe protein

it takes a couple of months for any change to have effect as the nail has to grow out

If you want a quick fix without any faffing about try
    Mavala Scientifique.
Comes in a tiny bottle which lasts for years. My nails started spliting and peeling really badly about a year ago, I tried this & within a week it was back to normal.

Oh I wouldnt try false nails either....as lifting and pulling of the false nails damages the natural nail plate.
