debt managers ltd

hi all,
just had a letter from these guys regarding my overdraft debt with abbey. does anyone know if they are part of abbey or are they an external dca?
the debt is for just under £1400. i wrote to them (abbey) offering £50 a month until my circumstances improve (which hopefully, touch wood they will do in a couple of months with a new job), but heard no word back from them whether accepting or declining the offer, so wondering if the debt has been sold on.
also on the letter in bold black, NOTICE OF LEGAL ACTION, saying that court papers will be prepared within 7 days, BUT if I want to avoid this i must pay in full today
- yeah, right, maybe it should be our debtfreewannabes' slogan - IF I COULDA, I WOULDA!!! GRRRR!!
not the first letter of this kind i've received, so not too freaked out, but still, is this more likely to be an empty threat? i've got 2 loan debts much higher with other creditors, and they've been fine with my payments (so far), would they go to the trouble of court for this amount? it's not as if i've not made any payments to them... been paying the monthly £50!
any info or advice, greatly appreciated..

Dent Managers (DM) are a seperate dca based in Rotherham and Edinburgh - nothing to do with Abbey.
DM do undertake legal work for Abbey as well as normal collections so not an entirely empty threat although I doubt they wish to go down that route immediately. Contact them (I advocate calling but not always popular) and give them a statement of affairs and agree a repayment based on that - assuming you keep to the payments and co-operate with future payment reviews you shouldn't have any problems at all.0 -
I don't think that £50 is an unreasonable amount at all on £1400. This is equivalent to the repayments you'd probably make on a loan over say 4 years or even 3 on a low interest.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0

I've just taken a call from this bunch! I've had a repayment plan with Abbey directly for my bank account for nearly two years - with no correspondence regarding any of the letters I've sent them (except a default notice). DML told me that they've written to me several times - which they haven't. Then they asked if I could repay the total (£1,350 which is more than I owe so I suspect they've added charges). I said no. Went away for a while and then said that they could accept £350 a month. I said no and that I could offer £22.35 per month and offered to send an SOA. He said no thank you, and said he'd send a letter in the post to start legal proceedings.
I'm shaking now. I don't think I've dealt with such a horrible person/company in all the time I have been dealing with my bad debts.
Can anyone offer any advice please? What's the next step now?DMP mutual support number 174Total debt now (April 10) £0! - total paid off £30,221 or 100%I'm now debt free after 6 years!!:jNon smoker since June 2006 :j0 -

I had a call from these people last week and told them i have gone with CCCS and gave them the ref (DMP not yet up & running) and they said well we'll just send a field worker round then and hung up!
I have read about these and they have no legal right to come round my house so will not be letting them in or even asnwering thedoor, and this morning i received a post card from them (not with debt managers name on but the ac no) saying will call around 5.30-7.30pm but no date.....
another scare tactic to get me to call and pay do you think??
if so when will they realise if i had it i would pay it-do they think i want threats?0
