What to do during the break?

We're having a band for the evening entertainment but they take 1.5 hours to set up and do the sound check and then they have to get changed etc.
We've sorted the itinerary out and the breakfast, speeches, cake cutting etc will all be finished by 17:30 giving the band the time they need to set up whilst the guests are out of the room at the bar. The first dance will (should) start at 19:30.
That means we've got a 2 hour break between the end of the breakfast and the start of the evening. That seems a long time to me but since the band take that long (as do most others I looked at) then that's how long it has to be.
It does give people chance to relax after the meal, move their car (we have parking issues), check on kids or animals at home. I know we'll likely lose a few people in those 2 hours but what could we do to keep the rest entertained?
We thought about a casino table but it's quite expensive, around £350 and we've already spent a lot.
So, should we just let people mingle and hope they don't all slope off or should we devise something to keep them entertained? We haven't got that many more people coming for the evening and it would be a disaster if most of the day guests left because they were bored!

We have a 2 hour break and we're suggesting people go check on pets, pick up kids (we're having a kid free day but they are all welcome to the evening), go to their hotel rooms (most day guests are staying over) or just go veg out in the sports bar (pool table and sky sports news on big screens, guess where the men are going!!).
We had this at a recent wedding and it was nice to just veg out in front of the tv for a few hours as it is a long long day! Plus it gave the bride and groom chance to have a proper chat with everyone

We have a break too and no hotels nearby for people to go and chill out in.
We're going to serve tea/coffee and wedding cake during the break i think.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
Chill out break for me! My evening reception is going to be in three separate but adjacent rooms, and the meal will be in one of them. Everyone will be asked to go through to the bar while the evening is set up and it will just give people time to relax and chat. I am planning on having my ipod stereo in the bar lounge in the evening so it will be on during that time for a bit of evening entertainment.
There is also a residents games room so I can see some heading down there, or escaping to their rooms for a little beverage or three! No longer ...tobe! Married 20/06/13MFW 2021 #117 £5415.40/£6000MFW 2022 #77 £3740/£3000MFW 2023 #82 £0/£30000 -
I'm sure it will all work out fine!! We've got our toastmaster to keep people entertained, I think he stays until the first dance. :T

We had a break and we didn't plan anything for it, it was lovely! We all set around and mingled, there was a large lawn where we got married and it was a beautiful day so we all sat outside and drank the rest of the wine from dinner!
My mum went to the shop to get suncream, our grandparents had a nap, my friend took her girlies home for a while and printed off one of the wedding photos and got it framed!!!! But other than that we just mingled. My only suggestion would be if you have the room to get a giant jenga! I wouldn't bother paying out for casino tables, I would guess it would only be the antisocial people who would slope off!Bump due 22nd September0 -
i think we are going to walk to the local play park, 12 out of 40 day guests are kids, there might be some energy to burn off0

We will be really near the funfair and I've love to pop along, but OH thinks that's really lame! We will have several hours and our room in the venue will be available for most of that (apart from when the DJ is setting up), so probably relaxing in the hotel. OH and I should have access to the hotel spa and pool too (not sure if we'[d even get a chance to use it though)!
Giant Jenga sounds like great fun!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0
