motivaton needeed

hey everyone.ive been on a dmp for about 8 months now and have been steadily reducing my 11k debt-very slowly. should be debt free in about 7 yrs if i continue as i am.
Just feeling really depressed about it all. i was supposed to be going to a cheap day music festival with some friends and i had been looking forward to it for ages but when i got paid (get paid weekly) realised i just couldnt affford to go...or i could go but then not eat!! felt so depressed and bitter about it all. sat on the bus crying which is stupid i know and i just kept thinking i can do this for another 7 yrs-whilst others have babies, buy houses and have holidays and im still in this stupid mess i got myself into-i was so temped to just end it and get run over by a bus and i thought it wold be the easiet solution. get like this every so often and then after a while i calm down...how do people stay motivated through all the money picnhing and deniel and lack of fun and how it seems it will never end. just feel so down about it all.
how do u stay motivated and upbeat about it when u have to contstantly deny yourself and watch others having fun?

  • ah lush sorry to hear things really got on top of u x It really does ebb and flow, and there was been times when it seems like all work and no fun and that can be really grinding - I think everyone on this board knows that feeling. Only the week before last I was crying on my bed lameting on my oh how its just so hard, the feeling goes. Then last week oh was glum all weekend, I finally got it out of him and he said "this money saving thing is just getting so tired".

Over time you may be able to pay off the debts quicker if you can get a better salary and that will bring down the 7 years. I've just adjudsted what I do and mostly do things that are free or low cost. A couple of weeks ago I went to a festival but for 1 day instead of the 3 days I would usually go for - I really did want to go for the whole time but decided I couldn't. If these events are your priority cut back a little in some ways to save up for the ones you really want to go to.

I know its hard but money is never worth taking your life (little is in fact) no matter whatever the problem things will work out and life is your precious gift, try to make the most out of it. Fun and good times fortunately do not come with a price tag. Stay strong xxx

I am just starting out on the DMP path and know that things are going to be hard but to keep positive I check this forum regularly and go through some of the success stories on here. That keeps me positive and focused because I want to be debt free! You sound as though you are young and seven years will soon pass leaving you debt free and able to enjoy life without the stress of debt but you will have learnt a valuable lesson and be able to appreciate what you have along the way.

I'm sure that suicide passes through a lot of our minds when we are in this horrible place but I cope with those feelings by counting the things that I do have i.e. a supportive family, two beautiful daughters, a good husband and friend and we all have our health. Suicide is not the answer, it's only money and not worth throwing your life away for!! As other posters have said you do not have to have money to find fun.

One day you will look back on this time and your future will be brighter. You have taken control of your situation which is a very brave thing to do (It took me two years to pluck up the courage to go down the DMP route and in the meantime I have run up more debt making my situation far worse)

Use this forum to help you find ways to save some of your money and try some of the challenges that are set - this helps me keep motivated

Sorry for waffling on but just wanted to reassure you that things will get better - sending hugs:grouphug:

    Hi Lushbu,

Sorry to hear of your current problems. However, having just recently come out the other side, I can tell you things do get better. It seems like a long time when you think about it, but the time does pass and as I said, things will get better. As Ellieseleven has said, use the forum for money saving tips. Remember, your not alone and can always get advice and encouragement on the forum.
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.
