Has anyone heard of such a thing? I want to heat hot water from the cigarette lighter in my car. Can't be bothered buying a camping stove, etc.

You can get this, I saw one somewehere recently advertised for around £40, but you wouldn't be able to run any heavy demand itrems like a kettle from it. It was designed for laptops and mobile chargers, not items that need a lot of current.

Thought that might be the problem, would need alot of battery power. I've got leads which go into portable tv's but not the 3 pronged lead needed for a kettle

In Car Kettle. Be warned it takes 18 mins to boil. I would strongly suggest that you only use it while the engine is running as well.

You're probably looking at the 1000w version (minimum)

A 1000W inverter would be pulling a minimum 80A. In most cars the only cable capable of taking this current is the one from the battery to the starter motor,. This would be the equivalent of running your starter motor for about 5 mins.Iit would probably totally drain your battery as an alternator can not replace the charge in your battery at anything like that rate.
