Is there such a thing? I want to be able to heat hot water from my car.

    i think your talking about a invertor that converts 12v dc to 240v ac theres loads on the market try mapplins or halfords.....ck

    Above is quite correct.

    But to heat water? no way! other than perhaps one of those tiny elements you hang in a mug. There is not enough current possible from a lighter socket to run a big enough inverter - to heat anything significant.

    Of course you can get ever bigger and more expensive inverters but they have to be directly wired into the car battery with heavy wiring and can flatten the battery in no time.

    You need to look at another solution. You can get some very compact self contained petrol generators now cheap from about £80 for 750watts upwards.
