Tax on Salary difference between 40k & 45K

Options
I'm in he lucky position of being offered two jobs at £40 and £45K.

The higher paid one is slightly further away and with a longer commute.

I've tried working it all out this weekend, but could someone tell me how much tax I would pay on both salaries?

Thanks,

J

  • The net difference is about £245 per month.

This useful tool breaks it down for you.

  • That calculator's a little out of date (2004 figures), so don't depend too heavily on the exact numbers - plus, it doesn't account for any pension differences which you should consider carefully. But the approximate difference in take-home pay is roughly accurate.
Mortgage at outset (May 2004): £80,000
    Mortgage now (October 2007): £58,000
    Original mortgage-free date: May 2024
    Expected mortgage-free date: December 2014
    Projected interest saving: £21,100
  • Thanks!
