Hello & welcome!!! Your debts are small, although I realise as you are both on a low wage they represent a high proportion of your income. However, presumably you moved to that house because you loved it and it would be a shame to sell without trying other options (esp. as it looks like you'll have to drop the price) .

Not really- we can't wait to get shut to be honest. We've had **nothing** but bad luck since we moved into this property and now the lad's away at Uni we don't need a four bed house with just the three of us.

You need to post an SOA to see what advice we can give. In the meantime - have you considered letting out a room - assuming you have a spare? You are allowed around 3k a year before paying tax. What type of business did you run - is it possible to do part time? Finally, does your mortgage company allow you payment holidays? That would give you a little breathing space to sort things out now you have 2 wages coming in.

Well, as I've been following this site for months I've cut back everything already; changed utilities / insurance providers, gone onto talk talk which is far cheaper than BT and we get free broadband, got a reduced offer with Sky by threatening to cancel. Got shopping down to around £150 a month by bulk cooking and shopping at Aldis.

The mortgage is just over £400 a month and although it's been VERY tight this last 18 months particularly, we have always managed to pay everything. The loan was £5000 when we took it out (we paid off the remainder on a car loan and lived off the rest because we were struggling as hubby couldn't get a job at that time) and that's down to around 3,300 now. I have become very adept at robbing Peter to pay Paul :T

As for letting out a room. No. Hubby wouldn't have it - and I don't fancy it either - were a family with a young daughter. No it's too risky having a stranger on our family home. No that wouldn't work.

Ok, just thought I'd have a shot in case you loved the place, but selling is obv best both financially and emotionally. Hope it all works out. x
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

That's one beautiful house :) Have you tried marketing it yourself online etc? You're obviously net literate, may be worth looking in to?

If i could commute to London from Yorkshire i'd be up there in a shot :p:o
  • Love Brid & Scarb.

What about turning your 4 bedroom pad into a boarding house?

Even if you only have one or two of the bedrooms up for B&B guests at least its a bit of extra income and people will pay money to stay in Bridlington - its all down to how well you advertise your wares I guess.

    P.S love your house

    Best wishes Bams xx

Can you sell off stuff you don't use (or like me fit into any more!) on ebay, would get you a bit of additional income to throw at the debts
