Entertainment- is it going to be enough

hi all

having a civil cermoney at 4pm
so will finish around 4.20/4.30
then welcome drinks into the room which we are having all night
so we will be having our photos while guests all milling around and having a drink

then we are having a poker table, giant jenga and giant connect 4-
i think from about 4.30-7.30- we have it for 3 hours

i want a dj doing background music from about 5.30?- does that sound about right?

then evening guests- only about 10 of them- will come at 7.30- when we sit down and have the speeches, then buffett opens, cut cake and first dance-- is that how it is done?

then disco all night

how does that all sound?

is it ok from 4.30-7.30 for guests to be playing games, listening to background music and drinking

xx

Are you not having a meal/wedding breakfast?

Normally the speeches are done then either before, during or after, but if you want to do them in the evening when all your guests are there, you can do that! :)

I'd be happy just drinking, chatting and catching up with everyone if I were a guest, but if there are games there then of course I'd have a go!

4.30-7.30 is a fair time to be drinking with no food, depends on your guests i suppose:rotfl:

But they would, or should, have eaten breakfast and/or lunch.

It wouldn't bother me, I'm not likely to starve in 3 hours and could wait till the evening buffet.

Maybe OP could have some canapes with the drinks to tide everyone over?

Well i know if i started drinking at 4.30 5pm with nothing much in my stomach i'd been home in bed by 9, as i said it depends on your guests, those type of games ime solicit copious drinking and with nothing to soak it up = drunk.

canapes are a great idea, or half the buffet then half later, so the evening guests aren't left with the dregs?

the meal is our buffett which will be big and left out for a while so people can go back for more and more
with the wedding not being until 4- like shelsuit said- everyone would have had breakfast and lunch
i am putting sweets out to so guests can help themselves to them all night

i do want all the guests to be there for the speeches- so i was thinking of making sure the rest of the guests- there will be only be about 10 extra- arrive at 7.30, then have speeches, then open the buffett

think the games will keep them all busy really, as well as talking to us etc, i think the 3 hours will fly by really.

didn't think about canapes- good idea, will find out whether they can do this

    thanks everyone x

Sammy im in the same situation.

    4pm civil ceremony
    Photos
    Welcome drink and canapes
    Night time do.

Time will go quicker than you think. With everyone catching up and saying hello you could arrange the drink about 5pm. With photos etc and the games you have arranged it will fly by.

We have the function room and a connected lounge area, so my initial thoughts are keeping the function room closed off and having the ceremony then photos. During photos a bar in the lounge will be open for anyone who wants a drink or stay away from the photos. Then nearer the end of the photos to open up the function room and all guests to be called in there for a welcome drink and canapes and Bride and Groom to be introduced. Having a few things to keep the kids occupied and looking at having speeches before the night time guests and also another thankyou later on the the night for all other guests........Having said that we will want it another way in a couple of days:D

In short dont worry as time will go so quick.
