Don't know how many other people have had problems.

Over the years-

Never had a NI and tax number issued, but another girl with same name received details twice. Over the years, her tax records have been mixed with mine a couple of times, including on one memorable occasion being sent a huge bill for thousands of unpaid tax on five full-time jobs over 100 miles apart!

They've lost my details plenty of times, lost my entire records twice now. Tried to access my details once and was told very sniffily that I was denied access to my own details as what I provided wasn't correct- they had me listed as married. Quite funny as at the time, I hadn't even been seeing anyone for months!:rotfl:

I've been told I've moved (news to me at the time!), that I'm both younger and older on their records than my true age, and that my middle name is not what I thought it was.

I've now married, and just had a letter saying they've updated my records to show- and it's addressed to Mrs (maiden name!).

DOn't even worry about it any more, as every time there's a mistake, it usually takes a couple of letters to correct.

How many other people have had similar episodes?

I would suggest you get a state pension forecast and see whether your NI contributions are correctly recorded as this may affect your pension in the future

Already did, and they were incorrect for three years, which was easy enough to sort out. Thanks very much, was useful info.

I would also get a pension forecast and also contact HMRC National Insurance contributions office in Newcastle for a print of of NI contributions paid since age 16 with the employers details. Their computer records go back to 1975.

It is possible the two of you have been using the same NI number at times and you may have contributions posted to each others records. This occasionally happens even though you probably have been allocated different numbers.......

Sounds like that's what's happened. Did contact NI Contributions office last time it flagged up- a few months ago- and got a copy of my records posted, which were amended and sent back.
I just seem to have had a lot of trouble with them despite being in continuous employment. Suppose it happens, and usually hasn't been much of a problem to sort out.
Have complete copies of records from HMRC and NI contributions, will be keeping hold of them, I think.
