I've got a virus..

Hey all,

I've recently formatted my machine and was about to load AVS anti-virus but I've got a problem.

Everytime I type the word 'virus' into a search engine my browser closes down.
Both IE and Firefox.

And when I do manage to think of a way to get the results I want, I then click the link and that closes all my browsers.. Strange I know.

So my question is could someone send me the direct link to download AVS??

Have you installed SP2 and turned your firewall on yet?

No not updated to SP2 yet, just wanted to get sorted first.

As far as I know my firewall is on..

the firewall isn't on by default if you don't have sp2.

Nope, no joy with the link closed my browser again.
Is this a common type of virus.

Could you send the link to the .exe please?

Thanks for the PM, but the .exe pops up then it gets closed down with my browsers :mad:

Time for a re-fromat I think.

ok, Either put SP2 on before you connect to the net, or enable the firewall before you do, otherwise you'll probably catch something pretty quickly again.

then goto https://www.windowsupdate.com and patch..

ps have you tried system restore?

Hi, yes I tried a system restore but only had one restore date as I only formatted yesterday.

Unfortunately that was the same.

I've just re-formatted now and in the progress of downloading AVG and doing the updates.

Looking good this time.
