Hi, can anyone tell me if you can burn ordinary coal in a multifuel stove or does it have to be smokeless coal?

It normally tells you on the bag what the coal is suitable for. I your buying from a coal merchant then they should be able to advise you. However, most areas are now smoke controlled so you should be burning smokeless only.0

Hi, It's known as bituminous coal or household coal and, whilst it's the cheapest, it's not recommended for mutil-fuel stoves. It's intended for use on an open fire and can't be used in a smokeless zone.
Forgot to say, you can use smokeless coal and variations of it.0
