Saving Money at Sainsburys, Poole, Dorset.

I have already posted the attached on another forum on MSE but have decided that it probably has vale here as well....

If anyone is going on holiday or going to Poole, Dorset, you can save money on your shopping as detailed below.

The Sainsburys store based in Poole town centre (situated in Pitwines Close) has an arrangement with the local council with regards parking fees at the store. If you stay for less than 1hr you pay 80p, for less than 2hrs £1-60, less than 3hrs £2-40, etc.

When you do your shopping in the store, it will then refund you £1-60 irrespective of what parking fee you have paid. So if you have paid 80p for 1hrs parking, the store will give you in effect 80 pence off your shopping. The only condition is that you need to spend at least £5 in the store to get the £1-60 refund. I understand the council actually pay Sainsburys for the 80p loss, which they incur.

When you visit Sainburys in Poole, I suggest that you ensure that you only park for less than 1hr. You can then get yourself several 80p parking tickets. During that hour, I suggest that you visit the store several times to do your shopping; each time trying to spend just over £5. During each of your visits, use one of your parking tickets to get £1-60 refunded back to you. So if your total shopping bill is say over £30, you can save yourself £3-20 on your shopping bill.

You can also do the same trick if you stay for more than 2hrs in the car park and spend more than £1-60 for the privilege. Poole is a lovely town and there is a lot to do as well as see. If you are in this position, just get several parking tickets as detailed above and visit the store several times until you at least get your parking fees refunded.

I do the above everytime that I go to Poole and it works fine for me. It is also very little effort.

Hope this helps someone:).

Wow you must have lots of spare time :rotfl: can't imagine going through all that with small children.

There are lots of other branches of sainsburys in the area where parking is free.

If you really want to save money, the Tesco in Branksome, Poole is known for cheaper fuel, which saves you money without having to shop basket by basket.

Thanks Delain. For info, I use Asdas at Canford Heath for petrol. Cheapest place to me within a 3 mile radius.:)

I LOVE this car park. We know it affectionately as the car park that pays you to park :-)

Hi delain. Another good tip is the Barclays House car park; not too far from the raliway station. If you want to go Poole without shopping at Sainsburys, just use that car park. The security staff now never check who uses the car park, becuase there are less than 400 staff in the building and the car park has over 1000 spaces.

Some tips if it helps. Never go into the car park before 1000hrs as this is the latest time that staff can drive into it. On some occassions before 1000hrs, the securty guards will stand at the entrance to check that staff only are entering the car park. All staff are given a badge to stick on their windscreen. If you want, you can just copy one and stick it on your windscreen but I don't really think there is a need for that as the security guards now do not walk around the car park to check as it is pointless for them due to the lack of usage. After 1000hrs, you can only enter the car park on the left had side and exit on the right hand side. After 1830hrs each working week day and during the weekend, the car park is shut with barriers. However, during each working week day, there is another barrier on the extreme left hand side (as you exit the car park), which will automatically open to let you out.

After you park your car, just use the stairs (by going through the door on the right hand side of each floor of the car park) or lift to exit the car park.

I used to work at Barclays and do the above regularly. For info, I will be doing this next month, when I go to watch the Bournemouth air show. I have some free raliway vouchers to use; so I will just walk to the train station from B/House and get the train from Poole and then walk from Bournemouth raliway station to the air show.

I do have one advantage though. I still have my staff car park badge as my manager was very incompetent when I left. However, I do have friends, who do not have any badges, that do the above regularly without any probs. I still know staff at B/House as well and they all tell me that the security guards now never walk the floors.

    Hope this helps.:)

It is great isn't it !

When I used to work in Poole, I would regulary walk into Sainsburys, buy a 1 hour car park ticket for 80p, buy some sandwiches, shopping, etc. and then use my car park ticket to get £1-60 off my bill. Fabulous as I never used their car park when I did this :rotfl:!!

When I need to go to Poole it's usually to go to the hospital and I tend to use the train, or the bus as I have a bus ticket anyway and OH uses the car for work so I only have it at weekends (plus not on my own as am lowly learner driver) :o:o

I will bear all these things in mind though!
