Hi All
I need your help! I need to make a HM version of the above, has to be vegetable though - I can find the post for tomatoe but no luck with my current search.....
The ingredients on the tin, if to be believed, are as follows:
Water
Carrots
Potatoes
Tom Puree
Peas
Pasta tubes
Onion
modified conrnflour
swedes
sugar
haricot beans
wheat flour
veg oil
salk
yeast extract
herb extract
(veg is only 29%!!!!)
So.....please can you help me decide how to go about putting it all together so it looks the same (v important as for my 3 year old and if it's not the orangey colour she will guess lol)
Many Thanks in advance

Sweat the vegetables in oil, add stock or water and the other ingredients. Simmer until cookedCan't help with where to source modified cornflour, though.

Hi
What will give it away more than the colour is the type of pasta shapes in it. 3 year olds are likely to note that.
The carrots and swedes and tomato puree will take care of the orange colour. What might be interesting is that you make it together and involve your 3 year old in watching you do so. If they see you doing it from scratch and in a huge batch and they see it and smell it while it cooks, then you may find that they eat it anyway. Also by controlling what goes into it, you can lessen the effects of any additives. It could be a thing for you to do together on a regular basis. Especially if the child can get involved in some way. You might need to add a tea spoon of sugar near to the end of the cooking as tomatoes sometimes make things bitter.
Hope this helps a bit more.

you will need alot of carrots to make a copy of the heinz soup, as the base is a carrot pur!e, rather than tomato/stock
for the time and effort, tins would work out alot cheaper (unless you use horse carrots)
i think the 29% of veg, refers to the lump/liquid ratio, rather than the overall content

Thanks guys!
Well I tried it and made a school boy error - I wanted to puree some of the veg the add some more in afterwards so left the chunks quite big as didn't matter as would be puree'd - then i forgot and added the pasta so wasn't sure what to do on my challenge to recreate it.....so it's now in freezer bags, puree'd for my baby when he reaches 4/5 months and starts solids lol.
Will try again!0 -
As Penelope Penguin said, but without the haricot beans, tomato puree and sugar - add a tin of baked beans instead. Bit of a cheat, but this makes it taste and look like Heinz.0
