That is not good! You should report them to the OFT because these rules are mandatory. They will try it on, but dont let them get away with the slippery tactics.

I think it's luck of the draw - some can be helpful - just more often that not I think they are difficult. They don't as a general rule seem to care about individual circumstances - more about getting their money back.
You seem to have everything under control so good luck.
